Evaluation is a systematic and interpretative process of gathering information, data, methods, etc. (teacher – students); it’s the comparison and analysis of the student’s progress, including skills, attitudes and values. Evaluation is very important for improve the teacher skills and also when he/she need to reflect about the classes’ plan.
Teacher evaluates the whole process, everything according with our judgement about different activities and the objectives that we established for that class.
Key concepts:
- Systematic and interpretative process: systematic because the evaluation is in the whole class, not only at the beginning or in the last part. It’s necessary to consider evaluation in the whole process. And interpretative because is necessary to collect the information. It is an ongoing process of gathering methods, data, context, etc.
- Comparison and analysis of the students progress: because is necessary to monitor the students. We need to compare and analyze if the students will understand clearly the classes' objectives, the activities and their importance. Also, we have to evaluate if the methods that we used are effectives for learning process of the students, if they improve their knowledge and skills.
- Improve the teacher skills: when teachers identify things that need some change, they try to transform the methods, activities, supplementary materials, etc. that used in classes. Everything in the classroom can be better if teacher improve their skills.
- Judgement: teachers decide based in their judgement if something is good or bad. Everything related with the learning process is evaluated according to criteria and objectives presented at the beginning of the class. Is very important that students know the objectives of the class (activities too) for a better comprehension and know how to develop and internalize the knowledge.
